Vietnam Flag

The national flag of Vietnam was designed in the 1940 and was flown in coup against French rule in Cochinchina. The Vietnam flag was flown by the Vietminh, a communist-led organization created to oppose Japanese imperialism. H? Chí Minh was the self appointed leader of the Vietminh who proclaimed himself president of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam at the end of the Japanese surrendered at the end of World War II. Minh signed a decree making the flag of Vietnam the official Vietnamese Flag on September 5, 1945. It was the Democratic Republic of Vietnam which was officially recognized as the government of north Vietnam by the Geneva Accords. The Vietnam flag was changes slightly in 1955 to sharpen the edges of the yellow star.

The colors of the Vietnamese Flag are red and yellow with the red forming the background with a yellow star at the center. The red represents the communist party honoring the red flag of the Paris Commune of 1871. The red in the flag of Vietnam represents revolution and blood. The other element of the Vietnamese Flag is the five-pointed yellow star which symbolizes the unity of workers, peasants, intellectuals, traders and soldiers as building blocks of a socialistic society.
