Iran Flag

The current national flag of Iran was officially adopted on July 29, 1980. The Iranian flag ensign is at the center of the flag of Iran and is a combination of the various elements of Islam. The Iranian coat of arms is at the center white band and has multiple meanings. The symbol consists of four crescents and a sword.

In the nineteenth century an ensign was combined with an image of a lion and sun and was placed on a tricolor band of green, white and red. There were minor modifications made and this remained the official Iran flag until the revolution of 1979.
