Honduras Flag

The Honduras flag was officially adopted on January 9, 1866. The flag of Honduras is design and colors are based on the Federal Republic of Central America flag. Honduras has been involved with the United Provinces of Central America since 1823 with adoption of their flag in 1866. It was at this time that the national flag of Honduras was amended to include five blue stars at the middle of all Honduras flags representing the 5 original Central American provinces. The colors and design are the same as that of the United Provinces of Central America flag.

The national flag of Honduras consists of three horizontal bands of equal width with the two outside blue bands representing the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The inside white band symbolizes the land area between the ocean and the sea. Additionally, this represents the peace and prosperity of the people of Honduras. The five blue stars arranged in a solitaire pattern in the white represents the five nations that formally composed the former Federal Republic of Central America (El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Guatemala). Additionally, the purpose of the five stars demonstrates the hope that these nations may unite again.
