Flag of El Salvador

The flag of El Salvador is composed of three bands with two colors. The El Salvadorian flag has two versions, the first with the National Coat of Arms and the second with the statement "DIOS UNION LIBERTAD", “God, Union, Liberty” in Spanish. The El Salvadoran government and associated associations use the first El Salvadoran Flag with the Coat of Arms. The second flag is used mainly for civil and non-governmental purposes.

Prior to the adoption of the current flag of El Salvador, the previous El Salvadoran Flag was inspired by the United States Flag with alternating blue and white bands with white stars on a red canton.

Many Central American countries use similar colors as the flag of El Salvador; this is reflective of the importance of these colors within the Central American federation.
