Ecuador Flag

The flag of Ecuador was officially adopted on September 26, 1860. The Ecuadoran flag is made of horizontal stripes of yellow, blue and red. The national flag of Ecuador is similar to the Colombia and Venezuela national flags. Interestingly enough, the three international flags of Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador are all based on a design proposal by Ecuadorian General Francisco de Miranda for these flags.

Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela were formerly under one nation and one national flag of Gran Colombia. These three countries share the same colors in their flags. The colors of these flags are:

* Yellow represents all of the country’s national resources including gold and agricultural abundance * Blue represents the ocean Ecuadorian skies that the flag of Ecuador will fly * Red represents the blood of those who died for the country.
