Dominican Republic Flag

The Dominican Republic Constitution describes exactly the design of the flag of the Dominican Republic. There is a white cross that extends to the end of the flag and separates the flag of the Dominican Republic into four rectangles. At the top rectangles are blue on the hoist side and red on the right side, and the bottom rectangles are also red on the hoist side and blue on the right side. Additionally, there is a coat of arms that features a shield buttressed by a laurel branch on the left and a palm frond on the right. Above the shield there is a blue ribbon that displays the national motto: Dios, Patria, Libertad (God, Fatherland, and Liberty). Below the shield there are the words República Dominicana. At the center of the shield there is a Bible with a small cross above. Next to the Bible there are three spears on each side. The Bible which is open is turned to Gospel of John 8:32, which reads “And the truth shall set you free.”

The colors of the flag hold symbolic significance. The blue represents liberty, white represents salvation and red represents the blood of Dominican Republic heroes.
